Experience

James started his career as a town planner, working as a consultant for developers, Government and private clients. He has managed the design, assessment and construction of a diverse range of projects, working with large multidisciplinary teams to achieve and implement good planning outcomes.

Upon his admission as a Solicitor, James commenced his legal career with MinterEllison and joined Shaw Reynolds Lawyers at the beginning of 2022.

With his background in town planning and experience as a Solicitor, James understands the perspectives and values at play in planning, local government and environmental law. In his time at MinterEllison, James worked primarily in the environment and planning team, gaining exposure to a range of complex projects whilst also working collaboratively with specialists in property, construction, tax, insurance and competition law. This experience has provided him with a broad understanding of the commercial and ‘real-world’ ramifications associated with development. In his time as town planner, James acted for both applicants and assessment authorities across a range of sectors including residential, commercial, education, health, recreation, entertainment and transport. He also acted for a number of individuals in relation to their own developments or those proposed around them. James has represented clients in several forums, including various local planning panels and regional planning panels, to achieve positive outcomes for clients and the community.
