WE ARE DELVING BACK INTO OUR SPECIAL COUNSEL, KAREN ARTHUR

What energizes you at work?

I love the way we start our day with a team meeting.  The meetings are fun, supportive, and sweet – just like the culture of the firm.  I have learnt so many interesting things about my colleagues, and even an introvert like me can become a chatterbox at the right time (especially when it comes to the topic of the divine Elvis Presley).

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?

As well-rounded as most lawyers try to be, I think the biggest misconception is that I can give people tax advice.  I wish!

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

Being promoted to Special Counsel was a career highlight.  I am so honoured and proud to be a part of the Shaw Reynolds community and I am thrilled to have the chance to continue to grow as a lawyer.

What’s your biggest work pet peeve?

It always seems to rain on my site inspection days….

If you could add one thing to the SRL office, what would it be?

An endless supply of green tea

What’s your favourite place to eat around here?

City Extra at Circular Quay – great menu, family friendly, and awesome views

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had, and what did you learn from it?

I was an atrocious babysitter – too much of a “Good Cop”.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

I wrote the horoscopes for our school newspaper under the name “Madam Karen”.  I gave terrific advice, like “Smile at someone in Year 7”, “Triple check your bag for your homework”, “Dress to impress at the school disco”

What’s one hobby you’d love to get into?

I am the least sporty member of our team, so I am on the search for something that could make them proud.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?

My 9 year old son – all that swagger!
