Profile: 10 questions in 10 minutes with Chris Shaw

What was your first job?

My first job was working as a console operator at a Shell service station.

What energizes you at work?

Completing a task or making headway.  Life is so much easier when progress is being made and it is visible.

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

I really love the daily meetings that we have.  Although they are short and to the point, I love the fun stories that arise from time to time.

What’s your biggest work pet peeve?

People that don’t think about the consequences of situations.  A little time spent thinking about what could happen next saves a lot of time and can be very comforting for clients when situations arise and a strategy has already been formulated.

What do you do to turn things around when you’re having a bad day?

Focus on what needs to be done and remind myself that when things are not going well that around the corner things will pick up.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?

A swim or a game of water polo.

What energizes you outside of work?

Physical activity, particularly water sports.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

I was a marathon kayaker many years ago and came 5th at the World Championships.

What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

Fish-eye soup.  I was working in Bangkok and my work colleague ordered it for us for lunch.  I didn’t order seconds.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Cadbury dairy milk chocolate.  Just love it.
